‘80 for Brady’ a fun, enjoyable comedy

Since the Super Bowl is just around the corner, it’s also time to check out an entertaining and enlightening Super Bowl story on the big screen with ‘80 for Brady.’

This comedy is inspired by the true story of four best friends living life to the fullest when they take a wild trip to Super Bowl LI to see their hero Tom Brady play.

‘80 for Brady’ is a fun, light-hearted movie that is definitely a pleasant time at the theater. There are quite a few moments that will really make you laugh quite a bit.

All four leading ladies (Sally Field, Lily Tomlin; Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno) looked like they had a great time with this movie and have amazing chemistry together in all of their scenes. Each of the ladies have their own little stand-out comedic moments — especially for when Sally Field’s character keeps calling her fanny pack another name. This definitely got plenty of laughs from the audience.

Moreno also steals the show during a few scenes. Most notably when her character (Maura) takes something to help her relax and sees Guy Fieri (who’s also in the movie) everywhere she goes. Even though the movie’s trailer and marketing showed that scene a lot, it’s still a riot.

‘Brady’ can also be a little dramatic when it needs to be. When it’s revealed why Lou (Tomlin) wanted to go to the Super Bowl with her friends, it can be a little sad and emotional. Yet, she and her friends could see their Patriots and Brady win that year’s Super Bowl.

So, if you’re looking for a fun little comedy or would want to see Tom Brady win a Super Bowl on the big screen since he won’t be playing at the big game this year, come on down to the Dietrich and check out ‘80 for Brady.’

The cast: Lily Tomlin as Lou; Jane Fonda as Trish; Rita Moreno as Maura; Sally Field as Betty; Billy Porter as Gugu; Rob Corddry as Pat; Alex Moffat as Nat; Sara Gilbert as Sara; Harry Hamlin as Dan; Bob Balaban as Mark and a few cameos from Guy Fieri, Tom Brady and a few other NFL players that played with Brady while he was with the Patriots.

‘80 for Brady’ is written by Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskis (both wrote the film ‘Booksmart’) and directed by Kyle Marvin (feature debut).

The project was announced in February 2022 after Tom Brady announced that he was retiring for the first time. The movie is inspired by a real-life group of Patriots fans known as the “Over 80 for Brady” club and the grandson of one of the members actually pitched the idea for a movie.

‘80 for Brady’ is rated PG-13 for brief strong language, some drug content and some suggestive references and has a running time of 98 minutes.
