‘A Hard Day’s Night’ A Delightful Beatles’ Classic

This beloved Beatles film is showing during the Fall Film Festival on Saturday October 1 at 9:00 pm and Monday October 3 at 7:00 pm.
In 1964, a musical comedy was released during the height of a certain group’s popularity. This mockumentary (a fake documentary) ended up being a huge success and numerous publications ranked it as one of the best films ever.
And, what is this certain musical comedy featuring one of the most popular groups in music history you may ask? Well, this particular film is ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ featuring the one and only The Beatles and you can see this film right at the theater during the Fall Film Festival!
‘A Hard Day’s Night’ marks the feature film debut of the ever popular 60s band in one of the greatest rock and roll comedy adventures ever.
The film has a fully restored negative and digitally restored soundtrack.
‘A Hard Day’s Night’ takes on the just-left-of-reality style of mock-documentary, following a “day in the life” of John, Paul, George and Ringo as fame takes them by storm.
Fans of the amazing 1960s band will surely enjoy this film while it’s showing during the Fall Film Festival. This 1964 film features some great, quirky humor and an amazing soundtrack.
There are several moments scattered throughout the film that are absolutely amusing and loads of fun. The grandfather character (Paul’s fictional grandfather) delivers quite a few scene-stealing moments in the film and can be very humorous. Throughout the film, there is plenty of silly fun that also features The Beatles goofing around and all of them can be very humorous as well.
The music that is featured throughout the film is something that all Beatles fans will surely enjoy and likely sing along to. The soundtrack is definitely one of the major highlights of this 1964 mockumentary.
Indeed, ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ can get a little on the quirky, silly side. Yet, that’s all part of the fun. Besides the grandfather character, there are quite a few other moments that are very memorable. Some of them include the famous opening where The Beatles are being chased by fans and later when they were being chased by police (in slapstick fashion and is truly hilarious). It all leads up to a little televised gig where they sing a few more tunes and will likely bring a smile to die-hard Beatles fans out there.

‘A Hard Day’s Night’ is written by Alun Owen and directed by Richard Lester, who also directed ‘Superman II,’ ‘Superman III’ and ‘Butch and Sundance: The Early Years.’
Screenwriter Alun Owen spent several days with the band while putting the script together. The band told him their lives were like “a train and a room and a car and a room and a room and a room”; the grandfather character actually refers to this in the film during one of his dialogues.
The film premiered at the Pavilion Theatre in London on July 6, 1964 - the eve of Ringo Starr’s 24th birthday - and the soundtrack was released four days later.
The film was nominated for two Academy Awards - Best Screenplay and Best Score. By 1971, it was estimated to have earned $11 million worldwide.
‘A Hard Day’s Night’ is rated G and has a running time of 87 minutes.
