Rated PG-13 for language and some crude humor (93 minutes)

Adam Sandler has worked on numerous hilarious comedies over the years. I honestly think some of his best stuff was released in the 1990s. And, one of those comedies is the hilarious and sometimes heart-warming 1999 movie 'Big Daddy.'

This Sandler comedy definitely has a lot of great laughs and could be something the whole family can enjoy together ... well maybe with the older kids since there are a couple jokes that can be a little crude. There are many bits scattered throughout that will really make you laugh out loud! Quite a few bits really stand out, so can't really point out just one!!

'Big Daddy' also has some heart-warming moments that can be sweet to watch. Especially when the young boy gets taken away from Sonny (Sandler's chartacter). From there, you get to see his character went from being a slacker to being a mature person who has warmed up to the boy.

You can stream 'Big Daddy' on Netflix or rent it from various PVOD services.

Here are a few interesting tidbits for 'Big Daddy':

  • Adam Sandler's wife played the waitress in the bar that gets Julian a root beer. This started the tradition of having his wife in almost every Sandler movie.

  • While filming, 'The Waterboy' came out and was a huge success. Noticing the box office, Sony sent a memo to the set, letting the production team and Sandler know that they had extra money to film or expand scenes they felt were lacking. This allowed smaller characters played by Rob Schneider and Steve Buscemi to have bigger roles.

  • Bill Murray, Jack Nicholson, Steve Martin and Christopher Lloyd were considered for the role of Lenny Koufax.

  • Adam Sandler was actually in tears during the scene where Julian gets taken away from Sonny.

  • The movie opened at No. 1 at the box office with a $41.5 million gross in its first weekend. It went on to gross $163 million, the seventh highest grossing movie of 1999, and was Sandler's highest-grosser domestically until 'Hotel Transylvania 2.'
