Plot: Chip and Dale are living amongst cartoons and humans in modern-day LA, but their lives are quite different now. It has been decades since their successful TV series was canceled, and Chip has succumbed to a life of suburban domesticity as an insurance salesman. Dale, meanwhile, has had CGI surgery and works the nostalgia convention circuit, desperate to relive his glory days. When a former castmate mysteriously disappears, Chip and Dale must repair their broken friendship and take on their Rescue Rangers detective persona once again to save their friend’s life.

The 2022 Disney Plus Original movie ‘Chip ‘n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers’ is definitely one of the best original movies that the streaming platform has ever released.

It delivers a lot of hilarious meta humor scattered throughout and the animated bits are really awesome. This movie obviously reminds me of ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’ with the live action and animated characters blended in. And, speaking of Roger Rabbit, the character is briefly in the movie!

There are also quite a few characters that appear in the movie that are really unexpected and kind of surprising to see since some of the cameo characters are from different studios. And, also, a cameo from Ugly Sonic (making fun of the original movie design of Sonic the Hedgehog in the 2020 movie) that is really funny and is one of the many scene-stealing moments in the movie. Ugly Sonic hasn’t appeared in any of the trailers so it’s kind of a spoiler. But since this movie has been out for over a month, word of Ugly Sonic’s appearance has probably been around lol.

Even if you’re not all familiar with the ‘Rescue Rangers’ show (which is also available on Disney Plus), you will still enjoy this movie. And, in my opinion, if Disney released this movie in theaters, it could have been a decent hit at the box office.

‘Chip ‘n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers’ is currently available on the Disney Plus streaming platform. The ‘Chip ‘n’ Dale’ show and ‘Roger Rabbit’ are also available on Disney Plus. And FYI, I will be having a small Disney Plus slate in the coming weeks ahead and will be checking out ‘Roger Rabbit’!

Here are some interesting tidbits for ‘Chip ‘n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers’:

• Early in the movie, Dale stars in his own show titled ‘Double-O Dale.’ In the early 90s, Disney was developing a show called Double-O Duck. This idea was scrapped when it was discovered that the title ‘Double-O’ is owned by the Ian Fleming estate, author of the Bond novels. It was reworked and became ‘Darkwing Duck.’

• Tress MacNeille reprises the role of Gadget for the first time since the TV series ended in 1990.

• Seth Rogen (Bob) has a scene with four characters he has played: when Bob is tripped up by Chip and Dale and lands on the floor he looks up to see Pumbaa from ‘The Lion King’, Mantis from ‘Kung Fu Panda,’ and B.O.B. from ‘Monsters vs. Aliens.’

• Jimmy the Polar Bear is based on the polar bears from a popular series of Coca-Cola ads.

• Alan Oppenheimer reprises his role as Skeletor from the 1983 cartoon ‘He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.’

• The old design for the live action Sonic movie makes a cameo as Ugly Sonic, he makes jokes saying that people “took one look at his design and they burned the place down.”

• On January 31, 2014, it was announced that The Walt Disney Company was developing a live action movie based on the Disney Afternoon animated series with CGI effects, similar to the ‘Alvin’ movie series.

• In 2019, the writers started a new script, which is set to follow a “meta, somewhat self-referential and cool” take on the characters. The script was also started as a spiritual successor to ‘Roger Rabbit,’ taking into account the changes in animation techniques in the four decades since ‘Roger Rabbit’ had been made.

• The movie features cameos from several non-Disney animated properties due to the director wanting the film to be a “love letter celebration of animation,” similar to ‘Roger Rabbit,’ and felt including only Disney characters would instead make the film “just a celebration of Disney animation.”

• ‘Rescue Rangers’ premiered at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, and was released as a Disney Plus original movie on May 20, 2022.

• According to Variety, the movie was the No. 10 most watched streaming title across ALL platforms, for the week of May 26 to June 1.

• This movie’s writers are interested in writing the script for a sequel but it would depend on the popularity of the first movie.
