The small indie film ‘Colewell’ is one of the many films that are being featured in the 2022 Summer Film Festival. I’m already expecting a good amount of people will see this film since it was filmed on location in Noxen and Tunkhannock.

And, you should see ‘Colewell,’ not only because it was locally filmed. But, it’s a nice heartfelt little feature film.

In ‘Colewell,’ for 35 years, Nora Pancowski has been the postmaster of small town Colewell, Pa.

When the U.S. Postal Service decides to close her office, she must choose whether to relocate for a new position and start over, or face retirement in Colewell. ‘Colewell’ is a great little feature film that can be a little heart-felt and is truly moving at certain points in the film.

The film mainly follows the lead character Nora, portrayed by actress Karen Allen, the seasoned actress in this film.

Her acting is spot on and really emotional when it needs to be. The postmaster character (Nora) has to make a tough decision for her life and Allen gives it her all in those moments when she’s reflecting on her life and what she has to do once the post office closes.

Another part of this film that is amazing to see is where the small community of Colewell comes together to fight being torn apart by the loss of its post office. Some of the moments where you see everyone fighting to save the post office and working together can be truly heart-tugging. It’s also very awesome to see some familiar locations and faces on the screen.

So, during the Summer Film Festival, do make sure to check out this amazing touching little independent feature.

The cast: Karen Allen as Nora; Kevin J. O’Connor as Charles; Hannah Gross as Ella; Daniel Jenkins as Al Catarro; Craig Walker as Bob Susskind; Malachy Cleary as Gray; Catherine Kellner as Claire; Tobias Segal as Andy and many other local talents that have appeared in the film.

‘Colewell’ is written and directed by Tom Quinn.

The film premiered at the San Francisco International Film Festival on April 13, 2019. At the 35th Independent Spirit Awards, Allen was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead and the film was nominated for the Independent Spirit John Cassavetes Award. ‘Colewell’ is not rated and has a running time of 79 minutes.

The show dates and times for ‘Colewell’ are as follows: Wednesday, July 20, at 4:30 p.m.; Tuesday, July 26, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, July 30, at 7 pm.; and Tuesday, Aug. 2, at 5 p.m.
