Plot: An international competition for junior league hockey teams is being held in LA. Coach Gordon Bombay is picked to lead Team USA. He reunites the “Mighty Ducks”, the teen misfits he once coached to victory. This time, crass sports promoter Tibbles tempts the Ducks to cash in on their fame in lieu of practicing, but the team eventually gets back into training and takes on Iceland and their violence-prone coach, Wolf Stansson.

A few weeks ago, I checked out the 1992 movie ‘The Mighty Ducks’ for the Exclusive Series. Now, tonight I finally had a chance to give its first sequel a look, ‘D2: The Mighty Ducks.’
The second movie of the ‘Ducks’ trilogy does have some uplifting moments and can be hilarious at times. Even though the 1994 movie isn’t quite as memorable as the original, ‘D2’ is still fun to watch.
This sequel also shows a bit of the corporate world of ice hockey and a team coming together after briefly falling apart.
‘D2: The Mighty Ducks’ can be a little sillier than the original. But, it’s still great fun and a good watch for the whole family.

Here are a couple tidbits about ‘D2: The Mighty Ducks’:
The scene after the first game with Iceland where Bombay makes the team do sprints is based on Herb Brooks’ 1980 US Olympic team when they tied the Norwegian national team in an exhibition game. The team skated for about an hour even though the rink manager had turned the lights off.
Iceland uniforms are the same colors of the Hawks in the first ‘Mighty Ducks’ movie.
In its opening weekend, the movie grossed $10,356,748 domestically. It was a financial success, with a domestic total of $45.6 million.
