From the songs of his mother’s heart to the whispers of a faithful God, David’s story begins in quiet devotion. When the giant Goliath rises to terrorize a nation, a young shepherd armed with only a sling, a few stones, and unshakable faith steps forward.

Pursued by power and driven by purpose, his journey tests the limits of loyalty, love, and courage - culminating in a battle not just for a crown, but for the soul of a kingdom.

The latest film from the faith-based studio Angel Studios, “David” delivers incredibly stunning animation, heartfelt biblical storytelling and more strong faith-based themes. This animated film is also a faithful but accessible retelling of the biblical figure’s life.

This 2025 biblical retelling depicts David as a humble, faithful and courageous young man. The film beautifully captures David’s journey from shepherd boy to King, which also serves as a coming of age story in a way.

The animated biblical story also delivers quite a few moments that will really stick with you even after you’re done viewing the film. There is a quiet, intimate scene where we see the prophet Samuel anoints David in his family home and there is some beautiful, detailed imagery throughout this scene - which includes some subtly spirited symbolism (like three doves).

The David and Goliath battle is visually epic and is a major highlight of this film. The moment the stone hits Goliath, and the giant’s subsequent fall, is a very powerful visual that emphasizes faith over physical strength.

“David” also carries some very strong messages about faith, courage, humility and trusting God’s larger plan, emphasizing that even small individuals can overcome giant challenges with divine help, highlighting themes of finding purpose within God’s story, and learning to trust Him.

This animated film has received overwhelmingly positive reactions, praising its beautiful visuals, strong faith message and its really engaging story. The film succeeds as a faith-based family film, delivering on its premise to be an inspiring, well-animated retelling of a beloved Biblical story.
