The 2021 sequel, ‘Don’t Breathe 2,’ is an alright follow-up to the first ‘Don’t Breathe’ movie released in 2016. The 2016 movie (for those who have seen it) was definitely memorable, very thrilling and one of those thrillers that you do not want to miss.
There is a good deal of suspense and thrills in this sequel. And, the twists and turns that are featured in the movie are really interesting and work really well with the sequel’s story. It was one of those sequels that, even though it was an all right movie, really didn’t have to be made. The original 2016 movie worked perfectly as a one-off movie.
For those who have seen the 2016 movie, the main character of The Blind Man, who is portrayed as a villain in the first movie, is actually the “hero” of this movie. So, that’s a major difference between the two movies.
So, overall, the sequel does have its moments and can be a tad gory at times. The first movie is EXTREMELY recommended, while ‘Don’t Breathe 2’ can be a rental just to check out for curiosity sake.
‘Don’t Breathe 2’ can currently be streamed on Hulu and Amazon Prime through the Starz add-on and available on multiple PVOD platforms.
Here are a few interesting tidbits for ‘Don’t Breathe 2’:
Although Stephen Lang is known as ‘The Blind Man’ in both movies, the character’s real name is Norman Nordstorm.
The abandoned hotel is actually the “Staro Zdanje” hotel in Arandjelovac, Serbia.
Contrary to the first movie, the main character changes from a villain to a hero.
In November 2016, writer Fede Alvarez announced that a sequel to ‘Don’t Breathe’ was in the works.
In a March 2021 interview, Stephen Lang stated that in preparation for reprising his role, he worked with The Northeastern Association for the Blind in Albany, NY to accurately depict the mannerisms of someone afflicted with being blind.
