Over the years, I grew up watching the 1991 remake of 'Father of the Bride' with Steve Martin. No matter how many times I have seen that remake, it's still very funny and touching. In fact, the remake is now available on Disney Plus (along with its 1995 sequel).
When I first saw the trailer for this HBO Max version of the story, I was sort of leery about the new movie. And, honestly, the latest 'Father of the Bride' remake is fairly decent.
Andy Garcia does a great job portraying the traditional father figure who would do anything for his daughters. The subplot of his marriage going sideways is a nice little touch to this remake and adds a bit more drama.
It is definitely different than the versions that have been shown in theaters in the past. Even though there are some changes to the well-known story, such as the family's heritage and the topic of a possible divorcing couple, the newest take of 'Father of the Bride' is a great little movie to check out.

Garcia and Estefan previously appeared together in 2000s 'For Love or Country: The Andro Sandoval Story.'
It's the third filmed version of the story, after the original 1950 film and the 1991 remake.
In September 2020, it was announced that a Latin adaptation of 'Father of the Bride' is in development at Warner Brothers.
