Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau will always be known for their close friendship and comedic timing in all of their movies together. One of their most famous movies, and one of my personal favorites, is the 1993 comedy 'Grumpy Old Men.'

'Grumpy Old Men' is one of those comedies that will always make you laugh no matter how many times you watch it. Both Lemmon and Matthau work well together in all their scenes together and there are also a few parts that are really sentimental.

This 1993 movie also has a nice small important theme of always sticking by your friends, even at the hardest moments. No matter if you and your friend still have arguments for decades, like these guys, always be there for them.

'Grumpy Old Men' will always be a timeless comedy classic and should be thoroughly enjoyed. You can stream it on HBO Max through the end of the month and is available to rent through YouTube, Google Play, Amazon Prime, Apple TV and Vudu.

Here are a few interesting tidbits for 'Grumpy Old Men':

  • This is the sixth pairing out of ten of comic actors and great friends Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau.

  • After filming this movie in Minnesota in freezing temperatures, Matthau was hospitalized with double pneumonia.

  • Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis were strongly considered for the roles of John and Max, respectively, but both declined because of Martin's frail health which prevented him from taking the role. Martin died in December 1995, right around the exact same time that this movie's sequel, 'Grumpier Old Men,' was released in theaters.

  • Lemmon and Matthau didn't think that this movie would be anything special, and were surprised it became a box office success on a budget of around $35 million, and making $70 million.

  • Despite an opening weekend gross of $3.9 million, its numbers gradually became stronger, with a domestic total of $70 million and a worldwide total of $80.5 million.

  • A sequel, 'Grumpier Old Men,' was released in 1995.
