HALLOWEEN 1978 REVIEW!!! (DIETRICH HALLOWEEN CLASSIC)

In 1978, film audiences were introduced to the one and only, the iconic Michael Myers. Over the course of forty years, Michael Myers has scared audiences on the big screen, and the franchise had a fresh revamp it with the recent trilogy - the 2018 Halloween and its two decisive sequels 2021's Halloween Kills and last year's Halloween Ends.

And, now the Dietrich will be showing this horror classic on the big screen Tuesday and Wednesday!

In this chilling John Carpenter classic “Halloween,” on a cold Halloween night in 1963, six year old Michael Myers brutally killed his 17 year old sister, Judith. He was sentenced and locked away for fifteen years at a mental hospital.

But on October 30, 1978, while being transferred for a court date, a 21 year old Michael Myers steals a car and escapes Smith’s Grove. He returns to his quiet hometown of Haddonfield, where he looks for his next victims.

The horror classic “Halloween” still remains to this day one of the most chilling and frightening films in the slasher genre to be released. This well-paced thrill ride delivers lots of very suspenseful moments and really good scares.

The iconic film score really helps build the tension in most of the scenes and the 1978 classic is extremely well-known for its score (also done by filmmaker John Carpenter). The scares that are featured in the movie are really effective and the mysterious Michael Myers will always be one of the best villains in the slasher genre.

And, not too long ago, it has been reported that the franchise will be getting another fresh start probably within a couple years for more films and potential streaming series.

Soles as Lynda, Charles Cyphers as Brackett, Kyle Richards as Lindsey, Brian Andrews as Tommy, Nancy Stephens as Marion (the nurse) and Nick Castle as The Shape (aka Michael Myers). “Halloween” is written by John Carpenter and Debra Hill and directed by John Carpenter.

Development for “Halloween” began after John Carpenter’s 1976 movie “Assault on Precinct 13” was released. Carpenter considered the hiring of Jamie Lee Curtis as the ultimate tribute to Hitchcock who had given her mother, Janet Leigh, legendary status in the 1960 film “Psycho.”

The horror classic’s production budget was only $300,000 and was filmed in twenty days over a four week period in May 1978. “Halloween” performed well with little advertising - relying mostly on word-of-mouth. Years after its debut, the classic is considered by many as one of the best films of 1978.

As stated before, the “Halloween” franchise has spawned over the course of forty years. The original film’s timeline ended in 2002 with “Halloween: Resurrection,” which didn’t perform well in theaters. Rob Zombie created his own vision of “Halloween” in 2007 and its 2009 sequel, which was met with very mixed reviews. The 2018 revamp of the franchise served as a direct sequel to the 1978 movie and ignored the previous entries. Sequels for the 2018 movie will be released in 2021 and 2022.
