'Halloween' Truly Delivers the Scares and Thrills

*** This is my initial Examiner review for the 2018 installment of 'Halloween.' I will be posting my Examiner Halloween reviews leading up to Halloween Ends !!!***

Forty years ago, masked killer Michael Myers first terrorized movie-goers on the big screen in 1978s "Halloween." The horror flick become one of the biggest horror hits ever released. Over the years, the "Halloween" franchise kept on going and even stalled for awhile. After the last two attempts in 2007 and 2009, the horror series stopped for awhile. Now, the series makes a triumphant return with a fresh start that horror fans will really enjoy! In the Universal Pictures/Blumhouse Productions presentation of "Halloween," it's been 40 years since Laurie Strode survived a vicious attack from crazed killer Michael Myers on Halloween night. Locked up in an institution, Myers manages to escape when his bus transfer goes horribly wrong. Laurie now faces a terrifying show down when the masked madman returns to Haddonfield --- only this time, she's ready. The new "Halloween" most definitely does a great job breathing new life to a once dying horror franchise. There are numerous moments that will truly make the audience jump out of their seat. Unlike the past few installments, the character of Michael Myers is back in his mysterious form and is as ruthless than ever before. The horror feature is also quite suspenseful and the entire third act is completely insane. So, come on down to the Dietrich and watch Laurie Strode face against the masked madman. The new "Halloween" really delivers the scares and will not disappoint! The cast includes: Jamie Lee Curtis (Scream Queens) as Laurie Strode, Judy Greer (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Karen, Andi Matichak as Allyson, James Jude Courtney as The Shape (Michael), Haluk Bilginer (Ben Hur) as Dr. Sartain, Will Patton (Megan Leavey) as Officer Hawkins, Rhian Rees as Dana Haines, Jefferson Hall (FXs Taboo) as Aaron Korey, Toby Huss (AMCs Halt and Catch Fire) as Ray, Virginia Gardner (Hulu's Runaways) as Vicky and Miles Robbins (Blockers) as Dave.

"Halloween" is co-written and directed by David Gordon Green, who last directed "Our Brand Is Crisis," "Prince Avalanche" and episodes of "Vice Principals." A new "Halloween" film has been in and out of development for several years. Since the release of Rob Zombie's 2009 "Halloween" sequel, the studio (Dimension/Weinstein Co.) tried to get a new installment out as fast as possible. After very little development, the studio lost the film rights and were later bought by horror studio Blumhouse Productions. Also, throughout the feature, there are several homages to the previous installments. Critics have given the latest "Halloween" film great reviews. During its opening weekend, the horror flick earned $77.5 million, the highest opening weekend for the franchise. "Halloween" is rated R for horror violence and bloody images, language, brief drug use and nudity and has a running time of 106 minutes.
