Now that I finally had the chance to check out the 1987 cult classic 'Hellraiser' it was time to check out the eagerly awaited reboot on Hulu, simply titled 'Hellraiser.' Before going any further, have you ever noticed the trend of horror reboots nowadays that just uses the same titles as their original?

Anyway, let's get back to the mini review! This installment of the long-running horror series is fairly entertaining and does have some really great scares. This whole re-imagining is a solid watch and is something that 'Hellraiser' fans will really get into.

The filmmakers did a fine job with expanding the lore/story and giving it a fresh spin. Actress Jamie Clayton as the new Pinhead/Priest. In fact, in the original novella, the character was in fact female.

Now, comparing it to the 1987 movie, the gore does seem a bit tamed down a tad. And, for a streaming release, it seems like a typical low budget theatrical horror flick. I can't wait to see if they will continue with this 'Hellraiser' timeline!

Here are some interesting tidbits for the new 'Hellraiser':

• This is the first 'Hellraiser' movie to have a female Pinhead. In Barker's original novella 'The Hellbound Heart,' "Pinhead" - a title Barker dislikes, preferring "Hell Priest," which wasn't used before Barker's 2015 novel 'The Scarlet Gospels' - is described as "modified" to the point that it appears sexless.

• In October 2006, Clive Barker announced through his official website that he would be writing the script to a forthcoming remake of the original film, to be produced by Dimension Films. By January 2008, the project was delayed following the studio's dissatisfaction with the script.

• In October 2013, Barker announced that he would be writing and directing the film; Doug Bradley was set to reprise his Pinhead role.

• A year later, Barker stated that a second draft of the script was completed and described the film as a "very loose" remake, but said that he may not direct the film.

• In May 2019, it was announced that Spyglass Media Group would be developing a new remake. In April 2020, the writers and director of 'The Night House' (David Bruckner; Ben Collins; Luke Piotrowski) were announced for the remake.

• In December 2020, following a legal dispute, Barker officially regained the rights to the property in the US.

• 'Hellraiser' had its world premiere at Beyond Fest in Santa Monica on October 4. The film was released in the US via Hulu on October 7, as a Hulu Original.
