'Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard' delivers action, fun

When ‘The Hitman’s Bodyguard’ was released in August 2017, it became a late summer surprise hit. The reviews for the 2017 movie weren’t the best, but that didn’t stop people from checking it out.

In the Lionsgate action-comedy ‘Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard,’ the world’s most lethal odd couple — bodyguard Michael Bryce and hitman Darius Kincaid — are back on another life-threatening mission. Still unlicensed and under scrutiny, Bryce is forced into action by Darius’ even more volatile wife, the infamous international con artist Sonia Kincaid. As Bryce is driven over the edge by how two most dangerous people, the trio get in over their heads in a global plot and soon find that they are all that stand between Europe and a vengeful and powerful madman,

Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard’ is a hilarious movie that features a lot of great action. The action-comedy sequel delivers quite a few humorous antics and a scene-stealing Salma Hayek. The actress has appeared in a few comedies here and there. But, here, she really nails it with her comedic timing.

The action really doesn’t kick in right away. But, when the action starts, it’s almost non-stop. The chemistry between Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson and Hayek is incredible, and just like the first movie, they work really well together.

And, to add into the mix is the always great Morgan Freeman, who plays … well, someone who is very close to the Michael Bryce character (don’t want to ruin the surprise role for you). So, overall, ‘Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard’ is an amusing action-comedy that gets the job done keeping you entertained. The laughs are everywhere. The action is really over-the-top and will really keep the action enthusiasts satisfied. And the movie’s soundtrack is really awesome as well. Oh, and don’t miss the quick little mid-credit scene. Just like how this movie ends, you may bust a gut laughing!

In May 2018, a sequel was announced to be in the early stages of development. Filming began on March 2, 2019 and was filmed in Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Bulgaria and the U.K.

At this time, it is too early to tell whether a third movie would be developed.

During its 5-day opening weekend, the action-comedy sequel earned an estimated $17 million.

‘Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard’ is rated R for strong bloody violence throughout, pervasive language, and some sexual content and has a running time of 99 minutes.
