‘Last Night in Soho’ an intriguing mystery

In acclaimed director Edgar Wright’s psychological thriller, ‘Last Night in Soho,’ Eloise, an inspiring fashion designer, is mysteriously able to enter the 1960s where she encounters a dazzling wannabe singer, Sandie.

But the glamour is not all it appears to be and the dreams of the past start to crack and splinter into something far darker.

Wright’s latest directorial effort is a truly unexpected cinematic surprise. ‘Last Night in Soho’ delivers a lot of great dramatic moments and a good deal of suspense. From the very start of the film, ‘Soho’ really gets you hooked.

‘Last Night in Soho’ is incredibly well-acted and both Anya Taylor-Joy and Thomasin McKenzie did an amazing job with their roles. The 1960s parts of the story are also both interesting and visually great. It’s also in some of the 1960s story where the suspense really builds and everything begins to get out of control. The mystery also has quite a few clever moments that lead up to the twist ending that really will surprise you and is extremely well-thought out. ‘Soho’ also has many twists and turns scattered throughout that lead right to the ending.

‘Last Night in Soho’ is written by Edgar Wright (The Baby Driver; Ant-Man) and Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917) and also directed by Wright.

In January 2019, filmmaker Wright said he would next work on a London-set psychological thriller. This film is said to be inspired by British horror films such as Nicholas Roeg’s ‘Don’t Look Now’ and Roman Polanski’s ‘Repulsion.’

Actress Diana Rigg (who portrays the landlady Ms. Collins) passed away on Sep. 10, 2020. The initial dedication ‘For Diana’ is in her memory.

‘Last Night in Soho’ had its world premiere at the 2021 Venice International Film Festival on Sep. 4, 2021. It also screened at the Toronto International Film Festival in September of 2021 and at the Strasbourg European Film Festival on Sep. 10, 2021. ‘Soho’ has received decent reviews from critics and earned an estimated $4.3 million during its opening weekend.

‘Last Night in Soho’ is rated R for bloody violence, sexual content, language, brief drug material and brief graphic nudity and has a running time of 116 minutes.
