It’s been a little more than a decade since we last saw ‘Puss in Boots.’ After being introduced in ‘Shrek 2,’ the fan favorite character got his own solo adventure in 2011. His solo adventure was well-liked by critics and audiences and became a big hit.
After his first adventure, fans have been clamoring for more.
Now, everyone’s favorite cat is back for an all-new adventure in ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.’
After a long wait, DreamWorks Animation presents a new adventure in the ‘Shrek’ series as daring outlaw Puss in Boots discovers that his passion for peril and disregard for safety has taken their toll. Puss burned through eight of his nine lives, though he lost count along the way.
Getting those lives back will send Puss on his grandest adventure yet as he embarks on an epic journey into the Black Forest to find the mythical Wishing Star and restore his lost lives. But with one life left, Puss will have to humble himself and ask for help from his former partner and nemesis, Kitty Softpaws.
In their quest, Puss and Kitty will be aided by a chatty, cheerful mutt, Perro. Together, our trio of heroes will have to stay one step ahead of others who are also looking for the Wishing Star.
The ‘Puss in Boots’ sequel is loads of fun and children will really enjoy it! Before checking this one out, I gave the 2011 movie a second watch since it’s been awhile since I saw the first movie. And, if you enjoyed the first ‘Puss in Boots’ solo feature, then you will love this one!

This entire adventure delivers a lot of visually-stunning excitement from beginning to end. During the movie, there are some action-filled moments that anyone in the audience can enjoy. The animation style in this movie is slightly different from the first movie. But, still, the animation is really beautiful and works really well in the action moments.
There are also many moments that are extremely funny, especially when the little dog comes into the picture. The character almost steals the show from Puss in Boots and everyone in the audience will love this new character. The movie also features quite a few interesting new characters, including new takes on the Goldilocks and the Three Bears and a scarier take on The Big Bad Wolf (which some children may find this character a little scary during a couple moments).
This new adventure can also be very heart-warming and Antonio Banderas still shows that he is perfect as the voice of Puss in Boots. The character is still loads of fun and I hope we get to see him in more adventures! Come on DreamWorks! Bring on more adventures in the Shrek world!

Overall, ‘The Last Wish’ is a fun-filled adventure with great new characters and beautiful animation. There are a few moments that can be a little dark, but nonetheless, children will really love the return of Puss in Boots.
The cast: Antonio Banderas as Puss in Boots; Salma Hayek as Kitty Softpaws; Harvey Guillen as Perro; Florence Pugh as Goldilocks; Ray Winstone as Papa Bear; Samson Kayo as Baby Bear; Olivia Coleman as Mama Bear; Wagner Moura as The Big Bad Wolf; John Mulaney as Jack Horner and Da’Vine Joy Randloph as Mama Luna.
‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’ is written by Paul Fisher (The Lego Ninjago Movie; The Croods: A New Age) and Tommy Swedlow (The Grinch) and directed by Joel Crawford (The Croods: A New Age).
‘The Last Wish’ is rated PG for action/violence, rude humor/language, and some scary moments and has a running time of 100 minutes.
Let me know on my Wyoming County Press Examiner reviews page on Facebook what you thought of this animated sequel. And, since they brought back a popular Shrek character, should we get another visit from other ‘Shrek’ characters?
