Filmmaker James Wan knows how to give people the chills on the big screen. After Wan first thrilled everyone with the first ‘Saw’ movie in 2004, the filmmaker went on to bring more thrills and chills to the big screen, with the ‘Insidious’ franchise, the ‘Conjuring’ franchise and also produced the 2016 horror flick ‘Lights Out.’ He also went on to put together films that had nothing to do with the genre, such as ‘Furious 7,’ ‘Aquaman’ and this year’s ‘Mortal Kombat’ (produced).
Now, Wan is back to do what he does best and give movie audiences more chills as the terrifying ‘Malignant’ arrives on the big screen.
In the Warner Brothers/New Line Cinema fright-fest ‘Malignant,’ Madison is paralyzed by shocking visions of grisly murders, and her torment worsens as she discovers that these waking dreams are in fact terrifying realities.
‘Malignant’ is, by far, one of the most unexpected, twisted horror flicks I have recently seen. The latest horror feature from James Wan really delivers the terror and it ultimately turns out to be a truly frenetic horror experience.
Throughout most of the movie, there is a great deal of suspense and, yes, gore. Even though the middle of the feature can drag a tiny bit, the entire third act really makes up for it.
And, speaking of the third act. It is, without a doubt, one of the most unexpected moments ever. Once the twist is revealed, the horror flick gets even more tense and even weirder.
If you are looking for some tense thrills and incredible twists that you will really not see coming, make sure to check out James Wan’s latest chiller at the Dietrich! Filled with great thrills and a really insane twist, ‘Malignant’ won’t disappoint.
The cast: Annabelle Wallis (Hulu’s Boss Level) as Madison Mitchell; Maddie Hasson (Netflix’s We Summon the Darkness) as Sydney Lake; George Young as Kekoa Shaw; Michole Briana White (Songbird) as Regina Moss; Susanna Thompson (The Public) as Jeanne; Jake Abel as Derek Mitchell; Jacqueline McKenzie as Dr. Florence Weaver; Christian Clemenson (Live By Night; J. Edgar) as Dr. Victor Fields; Amir AboulEla as Dr. Gregory; McKenna Grace (Scoob!; Annabelle Comes Home) as Young Madison and Ingrid Bisu (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) as CST Winnie.
‘Malignant’ is written by Akela Cooper (Hell Fest) and produced/directed by James Wan (Aquaman; The Conjuring 2).
In July 2019, it was announced that James Wan would direct a horror feature for Warner/New Line based on an original story. The following year, details about the project were still being kept under wraps, but it was reported that it will tackle a “slice of horror James Wan hasn’t yet explored.”
‘Malignant’ is rated R for strong horror violence and gruesome images, and for language and has a running time of 111 minutes.
