'Minions' Offers Silly Fun for the Entire Family (Exclusive Series Special) (Peacock)

*** This is a slightly tweaked initial review of the 2015 movie 'Minions' that I worked on for the Examiner in 2015!***

In 2010, families and their children were introduced to those lovable, crazy minions in the animated feature "Despicable Me." In 2013, the minions were back with their master Gru in the hilarious sequel "Despicable Me 2." Now, get ready for more minions who now have their very own movie!

In the Universal Pictures/Illumination Entertainment presentation of "Minions," since the beginning of time, these small creatures (later to be known as the Minions) only served one purpose: to serve the world's most villainous bosses. They are successful at finding them, but something always goes wrong.

After almost giving up on searching, the lead Minions decide to continue on and eventually become the henchman of Scarlet Overkill, the world's first female supervillain.

"Minions" is a very humorous family flick that children will really enjoy. The "Despicable Me" spin-off/prequel offers a lot of silly fun and lots of hilarious gags that everyone in all age groups will laugh out loud about. Sure, most of the humorous scenes that involve the Minions is considered slapstick humor. But, just like their hilarious scene-stealing moments in the "Despicable Me" movies, I am sure that families will love checking out this 2015 "Minions" movie with the kiddos!

Sandra Bullock provides the voice to the world's first female supervillain Scarlet Overkill.

Other voice talent include: Jon Hamm (Mad Men; Million Dollar Arm) as Herb Overkill, Michael Keaton (Birdman; Need for Speed) as Walter Nelson, Allison Janney (Spy; Get On Up) as Madge Nelson, Steve Coogan (Night at the Museum 3) as Professor Flux, Jennifer Saunders (Coraline) as The Queen and Geoffrey Rush (The Book Thief) as the Narrator. "Minions" is directed by Pierre Coffin (Despicable Me 1 and 2) and Kyle Balda (The Lorax).

In 2012, Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment announced the idea of having the Minions star in their very own movie. At first, the movie was originally intended to become just a typical direct to DVD release. But after the popular release of "Despicable Me 2," Universal changed their mind and bumped the Minions spin-off into a theatrical release. "Despicable Me" and "Minions" director Pierre Coffin actually voices every single minion that the viewer sees in the movie! If you can't get enough of those minions, do not worry. A "Despicable Me 3" is currently in development for a Summer 2017 release.

"Minions" is rated PG for action and rude humor and has a running time of 91 minutes.
