Continuing on with taking a look at the 'Predator' franchise, last night I took a look at the 2010 installment, simply titled 'Predators.'

And, despite the very mixed reviews that the third movie received during its initial theatrical run, this is actually a fairly entertaining installment. The 2010 release delivers a good amount of tense action and lots of extremely thrilling moments.

It has the perfect blend of action, tension and sci-fi/horror. And with the movie being set on the Predator's hunting ground is a nice touch and gives the franchise something fresh. I definitely enjoy this entry more than the 1990 sequel!

After I check out the 'Alien v Predator' movies, I will be ranking the series )including the 2018 movie). Just didn't want to re-watch 'The Predator' due to it being quite lousy.

Here are some interesting tidbits for 'Predators':

• The alien creature that pursues Edwin through the jungle, during the ambush scene, is a slightly modified version of the original, abandoned Predator design from 1987.

• The "hunting dogs" are based on one of the creature skulls seen in the trophy case on board the Predator ship, near the end of 'Predator 2.'

• The film's basic plot was conceived in 1994, when Robert Rodriquez (the film's producer) was working on 'Desperado.' He presented a draft of the script to Fox, but they turned it down, because the budget required was too large. Fifteen years later, the studio decided to follow through with his script; in the end, an updated version of the script.

• Laurence Fishburne filmed his scenes for just two days.

• The original script contained cameos by Dutch and Michael Harrigan, the protagonists of the previous movies. However, these appearances were ultimately cut out.

• It was decided that the film would be produced at Robert Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios, instead of Fox, so that Rodriguez would have creative control over the project.

• Rodriguez and Antal originally said they wanted the movie to be a sequel only to the original 'Predator' as the movie is trying to distance itself from 'Predator 2' and the 'Alien v Predator' series.

• Released on July 9, 2010, in the US, 'Predators' opened with $10 million the first Friday.

• The movie finished No. 3 with $24.8 million during its first weekend, behind 'Despicable Me' and 'Twilight Saga: Eclipse.' Grossed $52 million in the US and $75.2 internationally, for a worldwide total of $127.2 million.
