Plot: Sidney and tabloid reporter Gale Weathers survived the events a year ago, but their nightmare isn't over. When two college students are murdered at a sneak preview of Stab, a movie based on the events from the first film, it's clear a copycat killer is on the loose. Sidney and Gail, as well as fellow survivors Dewey and Randy have to find out who is behind this new murder spree, before they all end up dead.

Scream 2 is one of those rare horror sequels (or any sequel in general) that's better than the original movie.

This sequel has some very memorable scares and can catch you off guard during a few scenes. One moment that really caught me off guard when I first watched the sequel years ago was the death of one of the original survivors - trying not to spoil it if anyone hasn't seen it yet!

There is also a good amount of suspense, which just like the 1996 movie, blends perfectly with some comedy. The 1997 sequel is still loads of fun and won't get stale no matter how many times you see it.

Here are some interesting tidbits for Scream 2:

• One scene in Kevin Williamson's screenplay was described simply as "Wes Craven will make it scary."

• The cast weren't informed of the identity of the killer until the last day of principal photography. Also, the cast didn't receive the last ten pages of the shooting script until it was time to film the scenes contained therein. Furthermore, the last ten pages of the script were printed on grey paper in order to deter illicit duplication of them. All cast members were required to sign confidentiality clauses as part of their respective contracts that precluded them from discussing the outcome of the story and the killer's identity.

• Various titles were considered for the sequel at different points in the movie's production, including Scream Again, Scream Louder and Scream: The Sequel.

• Earned one-third of its total gross of $101.3 million in its opening weekend.

• According to a rumor, the identity of Ghostface was changed after the original script was leaked on the internet. This was referenced in Scream 3, where all of the actors and actresses on Stab 3 were kept in the dark about the script for this reason.

• Williamson had been contracted for two potential sequels to Scream when selling the script for the original, based on five page proposals he attached to the script, hoping to entire prospective buyers with the fact that they weren't just buying a film, but a franchise.

• An alternate ending was planned to reveal a third Ghostface killer to be watching Sidney from her university roof, but the idea was scrapped.

• Scream 2 opened in 2,663 theaters and took $32.9 million on its opening weekend in box office receipts, a $27 million increase over the original movie. It went on to gross $101.4 million in the US and $71 million in other territories with a worldwide lifetime gross of $172.4 million
