In 1996, a little movie called ‘Scream’ arrived in theaters during the holiday season. With it being released during the holidays, film industry insiders thought it would be overlooked and flop. The first movie became a big hit and eventually spawned a franchise that is beloved by fans.
Last year, the franchise came back in a big way, which featured a slew of new characters and another sequel thoroughly enjoyed by fans. Now, Ghostface is back to terrorize people in an all new setting and eager fans will surely love it.
In the eagerly awaited release of ‘Scream VI,’ the four survivors of the latest Ghostface killings a year ago leave Woodsboro behind for a fresh start in New York City.
However, they soon find themselves in a fight for their lives when a new killer embarks on a bloody rampage.
After really liking what they did with the 2022 sequel, I was really looking forward to what the filmmakers had planned for this one. Let's just say you shouldn’t be disappointed. ‘Scream VI’ does deliver the usual scares, gruesome kills and the typical meta humor. Only this time, they kick it up quite a few notches.
The sixth entry does an awesome job raising the stakes and giving fans a tension-filled two hours. There are several moments that will really leave you on the edge of your seat. Usually there’s at least one sequence that really stands out in a horror movie. But, this entry of the series has numerous moments that really stand out. One sequence that comes to mind that is filled with tension is when the survivors are trying to escape Ghostface and to escape the killer, they must use a ladder to cross into the adjacent building. This scene was used extensively in the trailers and once you see the full scene, you can feel the intensity.
One thing that ‘Scream VI’ does is makes things fresh and different, which is great for a horror franchise that’s on its sixth go around. The meta humor is still there and those moments can be humorous, especially when the rules of surviving are being talked about again. One thing that this movie also shows is that the series could go on without the Sidney Prescott character, who has appeared in the previous movies.
Overall, fans of the series will surely not be disappointed. The sequel is scarier, more intense, and, yes, slightly gorier. It can be slightly predictable in a few parts but that definitely won’t affect the fun you will have with watching the movie. So, come on down to the Dietrich and have a killer time with ‘Scream VI.’

The cast: Melissa Barrera as Sam Carpenter; Jenna Ortega as Tara Carpenter; Jasmin Savoy-Brown as Mindy Meeks-Martin; Mason Gooding as Chad Meeks-Martin; Dermot Mulroney as Detective Bailey; Jack Champion as Ethan Landry; Liona Liberato as Quinn Bailey; Devyn Neluda as Anika Kayuko; Hayden Penettiere as Kirby Reed and Courney Cox as Gale Weathers.
‘Scream VI’ is written by James Vanderbilt (2022s Scream; Netflix’s Murder Mystery 2) and Guy Busick (2022s Scream; Ready or Not) and directed by duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet (both directors helmed ‘Ready or Not’ and last year’s ‘Scream’).
‘Scream VI’ is rated R for strong bloody violence and language throughout, and brief drug use and has a running time of 122 minutes.
