The film festival show dates and times for ‘She Said’ are as follows: Tues. Feb, 21 at 12 pm; Sat. Feb. 25 at 9:45 pm; Sat. Feb. 27 at 4 pm and Mon. March 6 at 7:30 pm.
In October 2017, The New York Times and The New Yorker reported that dozens of women accused former film producer Harvey Weinstein of sexual abuse and assault. Over the next couple years, Weinstein was arrested and was eventually found guilty. He is currently serving a 23 year sentence.
In 2019, a couple of New York Times reporters, Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey, published a book entitled ‘She Said’ that is based on their investigations. Now, you can check out the events of what happened during their investigation at the Winter Film Festival.
The New York Times journalists Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor publish a report that exposes sexual abuse allegations against powerful (former) Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.
The shocking story also serves as a launching pad for the #MeToo movement, shattering decades of silence around the subject of sexual assault and harassment.
‘She Said’ is an extraordinary and, at times, emotional film about two investigative journalists who put together one of the biggest abuse investigations in recent years. The film is a very detailed look at the investigation and everything that the reporters did to get the women to speak out.
This film does an outstanding job depicting how assault and abuse can affect a victim. There are quite a few moments that show how it affects someone emotionally and those moments can be really hard to watch.
‘She Said’ also follows the main journalists of the New York Times and their interactions with the victims of the Weinstein scandal. The film does an incredible job handling a tough subject matter and the fact-based events that the journalists investigated. A good part of the film also focuses on the happenings inside the Times offices during the investigation, which was also quite interesting.

Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan do an amazing job as the investigative reporters. In fact, the performances from everyone in the film were great, especially the actresses who portrayed the victims. Their performances are very emotional, especially when they are detailing the events that occurred during their abuse.
Overall, ‘She Said’ is an effective film that is a must-watch during the WInter Film Festival. Even though it can be hard to watch during a few moments, it’s certainly a film that’s not to be missed.
The cast: Zoe Kazan as Jodi Kantor; Carey Mulligan as Megan Twohey; Emma O’Connor as Rachel Crooks; Patricia Clarkson as Rebecca Corbett; Andre Nraugher as Dean Baquet; Frank Wood as Matt Purdy; Samantha Morton as Zelda Perkins and Jennifer Ehle as Laura Madden with a small, pivotal appearance by actress Ashley Judd as herself.
‘She Said’ is written by Rebecca Lenkiewicz (Colette; Disobedience) and directed by Maria Schrader (I’m Your Man).
‘She Said’ is rated R for language and descriptions of sexual assault and has a running time of 129 minutes.
Some time over the next week or so I will have some interesting tidbits about the Weinstein scandal, the investigation and the book on my Wyoming County Press Examiner reviews Facebook page.
