‘Shrek’ An Enjoyable Animated Story (EXCLUSIVE SERIES)

The “Shrek” franchise is one of the most successful animated family franchises ever. In 2001, it all started with the smash hit movie “Shrek.” The first movie is extremely well-liked and did an incredible job parodying several fairy tales. Now, time to have some family time with everyone’s favorite green ogre at the Dietrich!

In the DreamWorks Animation presentation of “Shrek,” once upon a time, in a far away swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek whose precious solitude is suddenly shattered by an invasion of annoying fairy tale characters. They were all banished from their kingdom by the evil Lord Farquaad.

Determined to save their home - not to mention his - Shrek cuts a deal with Farquaad and sets out to rescue Princess Fiona to be Farquaad’s bride. Rescuing the Princess may be small compared to her deep, dark secret.

“Shrek” is an extremely amusing animated flick that both children and their parents will easily enjoy. The gags that are featured in the movie are quite humorous and there are a few subtle jokes for the parents that are scattered about as well. The entire family will surely have a great time watching this family favorite!

The animation in this feature is very well-done and the soundtrack is very amazing and it features some very good tunes that are in the movie. The actors also did a great job with their vocal performances and Eddie Murphy really steals the show as Donkey.

Schulman and directed by Andrew Adamson (Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away) and Vicky Jenson (Post Grad; Shark Tale).

“Shrek” is loosely based on the 1990 fairy tale picture book of the same name by William Steig. The principal actors never met each other during production, as readers fed them the lines while they were recording. The late Chris Farley was originally cast as Shrek and even recorded almost all of the dialogue before he passed.

Prior to the release, the movie was viewed by DreamWorks’ lawyers, since there were concerns that Disney would sue over the movie’s not-so-subtle satirical references to the company’s films and theme parks. Shortly after this film’s release, the studio started work on the first sequel, “Shrek 2.” Shortly after Universal Pictures acquired DreamWorks Animation, there were online rumors of further installments for both “Shrek” and “Puss in Boots.”

“Shrek” was initially released on May 16, 2001. The animated smash hit earned $267.7 million domestically and $487.8 million worldwide. The entire series, including the “Puss in Boots” spin-offs, earned roughly $1.4 billion domestically.
