‘Super Mario’ is nostalgic, family fun

‘Super Mario Bros.’ is one of the most popular video game franchises ever created. Over the years, it has become the best-selling video game series of all time, with more than 826 million copies of games sold.
A film adaptation of the video game series was released in 1993 and the reaction of that film really wasn’t that great. Now, after three decades, Mario makes another big jump onto the big screen and this is an animated film that everyone will really enjoy.
In the Universal/Illumination/Nintendo presentation of ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie,’ with the help of Princess Peach, Mario gets ready to square off against the all-powerful Bowser to stop his plans from conquering the world.
This animated adaptation of the popular video game is loads of fun for everyone and can also give a nostalgic vibe for anyone who has played the games.
‘Super Mario’ delivers a lot of fun moments and excitement that doesn’t slow down. The movie features a lot of humor that will easily make you laugh. The scene where Mario and Luigi get attacked by a dog while working out a plumbing issue in the beginning is really funny and made most of the audience burst into laughter. There are quite a few little moments from Bowser (voiced by Jack Black) that will make you really laugh as well.
Numerous sequences are beautifully animated, and there are some moments that will make a Mario fan feel a little nostalgic. Some of the sequences, such as the Rainbow Road scene and where Mario battles Donkey Kong, among others, will really make you feel like you’re watching the games again. You can easily tell that the filmmakers really took inspiration from game levels when creating these sequences.
The voice cast also does a great job. Chris Pratt and Seth Rogen have been getting mixed reactions for their performances yet I thought they did fine. The stand-out voice performance goes to Jack Black, who’s awesome as Bowser. There is also a little song that Bowser does that’s quite humorous and with Jack Black cast, I kind of had a feeling that was coming.
Overall, ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ is great fun for everyone and if you enjoyed the games, you will really like this movie.

‘Super Mario’ is written by Matthew Vogel (Minions: The Rise of Gru) and directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (both worked on Teen Titans GO).
‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ is rated PG for action and mild violence and has a running time of 92 minutes.
