The 2019 animated adaptation of ‘The Addams Family’ is humorous family entertainment.

This movie serves as an obvious intention to introduce a whole new generation to this kooky family. The opening moments starts with a fresh look and tells the origins of the family, which is entertaining and interesting.

There are many humorous moments scattered throughout the 2019 family flick. This animated movie and its newly released sequel does base some of its ideas from the original cartoons and the comic strip.

One thing that the filmmakers did to reference the original 1964 black and white series was to have an animated version of the show’s closing credits. So, make sure to check out the kooky and weird family on Hulu and on the big screen with ‘The Addams Family 2.’

Here are some interesting tidbits about the animated ‘The Addams Family’:

  • In the movie, the family moves to Westfield, NJ, where their creator Charles Addams grew up.

  • The character designs of the family are directly inspired from the comics, which portrayed them as more macabre and ghoulish for the sake of black comedy.

  • The Addams Family coming of age ceremony is called the Mazurka, after a lively Polish folk dance.

  • Oscar Isaac and Charlize Theron recorded their lines separately and didn’t actually meet until doing press for the movie.

  • Back in 2010, it was announced that Illumination Entertainment, in partnership with Universal, had acquired the film rights to the ‘Addams Family.’ The film was planned to be entirely stop-motion drawings. Tim Burton was set to co-write and co-produce the film, with the possibility to direct as well. In July 2013, however it was reported that the film was cancelled.

  • Towards the end when the town comes to rebuild the Addams’ house, part of it is pink. In the 1964 show, a lot of the set was painted pink to get the right shades of black, white and grey for the black and white screening.

  • Fester develops an attraction with Margaux, and by the end of the film is romantically involved with her. In the 1990s Addams Family films and TV shows, it was a recurring theme that Fester fell in love with the female antagonist of the week.

  • After development stopped in 2013 for the Illumination Entertainment version, MGM announced they would produce the animated film.

  • ‘The Addams Family’ grossed $100 million in the US and Canada and $103 million in other territories for a worldwide total of $203 million.
