Plot: High school student Sadie Harper and her younger sister, Sawyer, are still reeling from the recent death of their mother. They're not getting much support from their father, Will, a therapist who's dealing with his own intense pain. When a desperate patient unexpectedly shows up at their house seeking help, he leaves behind a supernatural entity that preys on families and feeds on the suffering of its victims.

When I first saw the trailer for The Boogeyman before the summer, I really enjoyed the creepy vibe it delivered. Even though I didn't get a chance to review it for the Examiner since the movie never made it to the theater, I figured it would be only a matter of time before it would stream on Hulu.
And after watching this 2023 horror flick, The Boogeyman, finally for the first time, all I can say is for a PG-13 horror flick, it can get really creepy. From the very start of the movie you can see that this movie will get dark and it does for the most part. Not going to say what happens in the opening minutes that made me think that it will get really dark, but definitely wasn't expecting it! You just have to see the movie to see what I'm talking about.
The movie also primarily focuses on a family of characters that are going through a personal loss. Their loss also adds an emotional depth to the movie and the character named Lester Billings also helps give the movie a really creepy vibe. The Billings character also pushes the plot further with the creature that's causing the chaos.
The monster in the movie is also mysterious and is also seen only a little bit which gives it a more intriguing presence. The Boogeyman never has a dull moment and it all leads to an awesome ending!!

The Boogeyman is the film adaptation of a short story, written by Stephen King, that was originally featured in the March 1973 issue of Cavalier magazine and later in Night Shift, a collection of short stories all written by King.
Some scenes were so intense that they had to be changed after test screenings. The audience screamed so loud that important dialogue after the scene was lost. The editing was changed to put in pauses so it can be heard.
The movie was officially announced on June 26, 2018. But after the Disney acquisition of Fox, the movie was canceled. The Boogeyman was revived in November 2021.
The Boogeyman was released in the US on June 2, 2023 by 20th Century Studios. It was originally planned to be released exclusively on Hulu, but following a positive test screening in December 2022, it was announced that it would instead be released theatrically.
The Boogeyman has grossed $43.2 million in the US and Canada, and $39.1 million in other territories, for a worldwide gross of $82.3 million.
