Here is a quick little review for ‘The Eyes of Tammy Faye,’ which is part of my “NEW MONDAY” series that I recently started. I know, I know it’s a little late but I had a couple things to do this week and got slightly behind …
Jessica Chastain actually gave the 2021 film one of her best performances of her career (at this point). I watched a couple videos on YouTube that featured the real Tammy Faye and Chastain really nailed it. She really steals the show in this movie!!
‘The Eyes of Tammy Faye’ also dives into the controversies that Tammy Faye and her first husband went through over the years. And, there were quite a few things about their controversies that I had no idea about until I watched the movie and even looked up a few things about it.
‘The Eyes of Tammy Faye’ is currently available to stream on the HBO Max streaming platform.
Here are a few interesting tidbits for ‘The Eyes of Tammy Faye’:
Jessica Chastain does her own covers of Tammy Faye Bakker’s original songs.
The film had been a passion project of Chastain’s for a number of years before it ended up being made. She had seen the 2000 documentary of the same name around 2012 and felt drawn to tell Tammy’s story after acquiring the rights to produce a biopic about the infamous televangelist.
The project was announced in May 2019 and principal photography began that October.
Had its world premiere at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival on September 12, 2021 and was also an official selection at several other film festivals including San Sebastian International Film Festival, Tokyo International Film Festival, Sedona Film Festival and Sydney Film Festival.
The film was released on September 24 2021; Later made available to stream on HBO Max in February 2022.
