The ‘Ice Age’ series is one of the most popular animated franchises ever and quite a few people grew up watching the series. Since the last sequel was released in 2016, the animated series kinda went away for awhile. Now, Disney brings the world of ‘Ice Age’ back to the screens in an all-new adventure on Disney Plus.

‘The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild’ primarily focuses on side characters Crash, Eddie and Buck Wild. The new animated adventure does have some cool looking adventure moments and a couple humorous moments scattered throughout. It’s definitely not as funny as the previous entries of the series. Also, the animation was okay, but the original series animation was way better.

Some of the younger ones will likely enjoy this one. But, for the ones who grew up watching the movies, there’s a slim chance you’ll like it. It definitely has a different feel compared to the previous movies and the main characters of the series only appear sporadically in the movie. Plus, besides the return of Simon Pegg voicing Buck, none of the other regular voice talent returned for this sequel/spin-off.

You can currently check out this ‘Ice Age’ adventure on Disney Plus.

Here are a few tidbits for ‘The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild’:

  • Simon Pegg was the only cast member to reprise his role, namely as Buck.

  • This is the first ‘Ice Age’ movie or short in which Scrat doesn’t make an appearance. Similarly, it’s the first movie not to feature the involvement of ‘Ice Age’ creator, original director and Scrat voice actor Chris Wedge. The former instance was due to Disney losing the rights to the character in 2020 after a longtime legal battle with designer Ivy Supersonic (real name Ivy Silberstein). The legal rights were subsequently resolved, as a series revolving around the character, titled ‘Ice Age: Scrat Tales,’ was announced soon after. The character designer claimed that Fox took the idea of Scrat from her, which she claimed was originally ‘Sqrat.”

  • It’s unknown why almost none of the original actors returned.

  • This will be the first Disney Plus animated movie to be based on a Blue Sky Studios franchise.

  • Due to Blue Sky Studios shutting down in early 2021, the movie was instead animated by Bardel Entertainment, the same animated company who worked on Disney Plus' 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' animated movie.

  • The project was originally intended as a Disney Plus series before being moved into a feature film for the same platform.
