The other night I took a look at the 80s classic The Lost Boys on Tubi. This was the first time seeing this movie in probably a few years. And, this is STILL as entertaining as it was during the other times I have watched this!
The Lost Boys delivers a great blend of humor and horror. This 80s film is really enjoyable and is probably one of the most remembered films released during the decade. The movie also does a great job giving a then-modern look at the vampire mythos. At least these vampires didn't sparkle like in Twilight lol!
Kiefer Sutherland steals the show as leader of the vampire gang that has been terrorizing the town. The Lost Boys also has a really awesome soundtrack and anyone who grew up in the 80s and maybe early 90s may get a nostalgic feeling when watching this. And if you haven't watched The Lost Boys ... first off why the hell not and second there are a couple twists and turns that you might not see coming.
The Lost Boys is currently streaming on Tubi for the rest of the month and is also available on various PVOD services.
Here are some fun little tidbits for The Lost Boys:
This is Corey Haim and Corey Feldman's first film together, which marked the start of a popular 80s trend "The Two Coreys,' in which Feldnman and Haim starred together in a number of teenage films.
Every year at the landmark Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, this movie is screened as part of the park's free summer movie series. Beach goers may bring outdoor furniture and supplies to watch after sunset.
Gerard McMahon wrote the theme song "Cry Little Sister" after reading the script, but without seeing the film.
The movie is titled after the companions of J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan, who remained forever young.
The names of the Frog brothers, Edgar and Alan, are a reference to Edgar Allan Poe, the well known writer of horror fiction.
The Lost Boys opened at No. 2 during its opening weekend, with a domestic gross of over $5.2 million. It went on to gross a domestic total of over $32.2 million.
Sutherland's character, David, was impaled on antlers but doesn't explode or dissolve as do the other vampires. He was intended to have survived, which would be picked up in a potential sequel, The Lost Girls.
Scripts for The Lost Girls and other sequels circulated over the years. Schumacher made several attempts at a sequel during the 90s, but nothing came to fruition.
Two DVD sequels were released in 2008 and 2010 - Lost Boys: The Tribe and Lost Boys: The Thirst.
