The Meg 2: The Trench is the sequel to the 2018 shark movie where action tough guy Jason Statham battles a really, really, big shark ... actually two of them. Now, this time around, Statham battles not one, not two but three really, really, really big sharks.

Just like the 2018 movie (which I recently gave another look and will post my original review from 2018 - slightly tweaked), The Trench is filled with some awesome underwater action and more battles with sharks.

Sure, there are moments that can't really actually happen with sharks. But, this is a fun two hour movie that is perfect for you to turn off your brain and enjoy! All of the underwater sequences are visually incredible and the action in those scenes can get a little tense! There is a part of the underwater scenes where the research team using suits that they built for being down in the water and they have to walk along the bottom where the sharks and other creatures are. Those moments can get really intense at times and features some great fun!!

The Meg 2: The Trench is great fun and will still be showing at the Dietrich Theater for another week! And bring down The Meg 3!!!

Here are some fun tidbits for The Meg 2: The Trench!

• Director Ben Wheatley agreed to direct the movie immediately simply because he greatly enjoyed watching the 2018 movie.

• Jason Statham was reportedly disappointed by the lighter tone and lack of bloodshed in this movie.

• Statham also did most of his own stunts himself. The entirety of the jet ski chase was done without the use of a stuntman and was all Statham.

• The scene where Jonas is sliding down the deck toward the shark's mouth appears to be nod to Jaws, where Quint slides into the shark's mouth on its final attack on the Orca.

• The scene in which the Meg devours a T-rex is directly taken from the first chapter of the 1997 book "Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror," by Steve Alten, upon which the first movie is based.

• In March 2019, it was announced that a script for the sequel was in the works.
