'The Program' is an underrated 1993 sports drama that might actually be one of the best films out there that involves college football. James Caan, who portrays a college football coach who is caught up in the football system, does an incredible job as usual! His performance really helps with the coach character who is conflicted about how the college is handling some of the football requirements and the business aspect of it.
The film also shows what a college football player would do to play on the field and the stress it can have on them. Just like another football film called 'Any Given Sunday' (highly recommended BTW), it also dives into the business aspect of the sport and what the school would do to keep it thriving - which can be quite interesting.
Overall, 'The Program' is a great little film to check out, especially if you enjoy watching college football. It features great performances and also shows what certain football players are going through during the football season. A few of those moments can actually be moving.

The movie was filmed at the University of South Carolina and features their William-Brice Stadium, as well as locations around Columbia.
The film went on to gross over $20 million domestic at the box office.
