'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' is one of those horror franchises that really had its ups and downs. Well, mainly downs. I think the last decent 'Massacre' movie was the 2003 remake. And, the 2013 sequel really wasn't that great and I think there was another movie after that which went to PVOD. Now, Leatherface is back for another go around. But, only this time, went right to streaming.

There are some really decent scares and kills scattered throughout the 2022 sequel. It's also cool to see an older Leatherface and to see that he still has what it takes to do what he does best! The ending does leave things open for a potential sequel. But, who knows if there will be one.

Now, this installment does have some issues. Such as, the sequel tried to pull what the 2018 'Halloween' did and bring back the "final girl" after so many decades for vengeance. It sort of works out in this movie just a little bit. There are also a couple things that don't make sense. For example, how can a chainsaw that's rusted up still work after 50 years? How can a skinny girl survive getting a sledgehammer thrown at her and go through the floor and still be kinda okay. And there are many other small plot holes like that....

One thing that this sequel doesn't mention is the Sawyer family, who is the family of Leatherface. At least one cool thing they included was a quick mid-credit scene of Leatherface walking to the family home.

So, overall, the 2022 Netflix sequel has its moments and I might be a little curious to see where the franchise would go. And, hopefully, it won't be another needless reboot.

Here are a few interesting tidbits for 2022s 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre':

• The movie was initially slated for a theatrical release in 2021, but all plans were scrapped after a string of disastrous test screenings. It was subsequently sold to Netflix, where it debuted in February 2022.

• On August 24, 2020, initial directors Ryan and Andy Tohill split from the project during the first week of production in Bulgaria. The duo was replaced with David Blue Garcia, who scrapped and re-shot the previous footage.

• Initially during the development of 2017s 'Leatherface,' the producers had the film rights and intention to make five more movies. In April 2015, producer Christa Campbell stated that the fate of the potential sequels would largely depend on the financial/critical reception of 'Leatherface.'

• By December 2017, Lionsgate and Millennium Films had lost the film rights, due to the amount of time it took to release 'Leatherface.'

• In August 2018, it was reported that Legendary had entered negotiations for the rights, with the studio intending to adapt TV and film installments.

• The movie debuted at No. 2 on Netflix's global charts during the week of its release - it was viewed by subscribers for 29.2 million hours.
