Amidst a catastrophic hurricane, a coastal town battles nature’s wrath and an onslaught of sharks. Braving torrential rain, debris, and darkness, they unite to survive the deadly predators and make it through the storm.

Once I looked at the trailer for the 2026 Netflix movie “Thrash,” I was immediately hooked since I enjoy shark movies (well, except for “Jaws 3” and “Jaws: The Revenge”). And, even though the reviews for this movie weren’t the best, I still had a good time watching it!

The 2026 Netflix shark thriller delivers a chaotic “sharks in a hurricane” concept. While many critics and audiences acknowledged its deep logical flaws and somewhat uneven execution, I had a great time checking the movie out as it leans into its simple fun, “turn your brain off” B-movie qualities.

One thing I really like about “Thrash” is that the movie didn’t take itself too seriously. Throughout the shark thriller, it fully embraced creature feature absurdities - such as kids fighting off sharks with dynamite wrapped around steaks and extremely fast flash floods - making it either an easy background watch or a “so bad it’s good” viewing experience.

The core set up - combining a Category 5 hurricane with a massive flood infested by hungry sharks, plus a few high-tension subplots like a character undergoing a water birth in the middle of the chaos - provides a fun mashup of hurricane disaster movie meets killer animal flick.

“Thrash” definitely delivers on the over the top, wild chaotic action. There’s a scene that I briefly mentioned where a trio of estranged foster kids collect stolen steaks and dynamite from their flooded basement to rig a baited explosive trap. This sequence is definitely one of the biggest highlights of the movie! There’s also a high-tension moment with these kids where they are forced to balance on countertops as they see the bull sharks navigate through their home.

There’s also a disaster that quickly escalates early in the movie where a meat-packing truck crashes during a storm surge, spilling massive amounts of animal blood and meat straight into the rising floodwaters - effectively chumming the entire town and triggering a huge feeding frenzy for the sharks. Sure, this sequence could be a campy,

convenient plot device to bring the sharks to the town, but it still helps keep the campy fun going.

The overall audience response to the 2026 Netflix shark disaster movie “Thrash” is highly mixed, leaning heavily toward “dumb but fun” popcorn entertainment. While it briefly climbed to the No. 1 spot on Netflix, viewers widely recognize it as a formulaic, cheesy B-movie.
