'Uncharted' an action-packed adventure

A film adaptation based on the extremely popular PlayStation/Naughty Dog video game franchise, ‘Uncharted’ has been in the works for years. Ever since being announced all the way back in 2008, numerous directors tried to get the movie rolling.

Now, after years of a long, complicated development, ‘Uncharted’ finally hits the big screen and this adventure is worth a look.

In the Sony/PlayStation presentation of ‘Uncharted,’ street-smart thief Nathan Drake is recruited by seasoned treasure hunter Victor ‘Sully’ Sullivan to recover a fortune lost by Ferdinand Magellan 500 years ago. What starts as a heist job for the duo becomes a globe-trotting, white-knuckle race to reach the prize before the ruthless Moncanda, who believes he and his family are the rightful heirs.

If Nate and Sully can decipher the clues and solve one of the world’s oldest mysteries, they stand to find $5 billion in treasure and perhaps even Nate’s long-lost brother … but only if they can learn to work together.

‘Uncharted’ is an action-packed adventure that will leave you both entertained and surprised. This fast-paced adventure delivers lots of thrilling action and moments that will leave you at the very edge of your seat.

Throughout most of the adventure-filled sequences, a good deal of suspense is built up that will keep your adrenaline pumping. The visual effects in the movie are really awesome and the action scenes are extremely well done.

In between the action and the suspense, there are some moments that can be really funny. Most of the hilarious bits are between Holland and Wahlberg (Nathan Drake/Sully). The actors work well together and it looks like they had a blast making the movie.

So, if you’re looking for some exciting, adventure-filled fun, then make sure to come on down to the Dietrich and don’t miss out on ‘Uncharted.’ Make sure to stay for an extra scene that could likely lead into a potential ‘Uncharted’ sequel.

‘Uncharted’ is written by Rafe Judkins; Art Marcum (MIB: International; Transformers: The Last Knight) and Matt Holloway (MIB: International; The Last Knight; Iron Man) and directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland: Double Tap; Venom; Gangster Squad).

The film adaptation has been in the works since 2008. Film producer Avi Arad had been keeping the project going since the beginning.

Many directors worked on the movie at some point, such as David O. Russell (American Hustle), Seth Gordon (Baywatch; Identity Thief) and Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane). ‘Uncharted’ also marks the first feature production of Sony’s PlayStation Productions.

The movie took some inspiration from the 2016 game ‘Uncharted 4: The Thief’s End’ and serves as a prequel to the games. And, another quick fact: there’s a scene where Nathan and Chloe walk up on the beach and a hotel guest starts talking to them. The hotel guest is actually voice actor Nolan North, who voices Nathan Drake in the video games.

During its opening weekend, despite mixed reviews, ‘Uncharted’ earned an estimated $44 million, exceeding studio expectations. As of this writing (Feb. 20), the studio is expecting it to hit roughly $51 million over the four day President’s Day weekend.

‘Uncharted’ is rated PG-13 for violence/action and language and has a running time of 116 minutes.
