‘Violent Night’ Delivers Insane Holiday Action

In the holiday action-comedy ‘Violent Night,’ when a team of mercenaries breaks into a wealthy family compound on Christmas Eve, taking everyone inside hostage, the team isn’t prepared for a surprise combatant: Santa Claus is on the grounds, and he’s about to show why this Nick is no saint.

‘Violent Night’ is an action-packed movie that also delivers a lot of fun moments and even a few funny segments as well.

The action sequences that are scattered throughout the movie are highly entertaining, and also quite insane at times. The action can get a little bloody at some parts and some of them really reminds me of some of the action that you see in the ‘John Wick’ movies.

David Harbour does an awesome job as the movie’s St. Nick. The actor can be really humorous in some of his scenes and you can tell that Harbour had a great time making the movie. This movie definitely shows an action-packed side of Santa that you’ve never seen before. But, there are also a few little somber moments in the movie - mainly when Santa is talking with the little girl Trudy.

The humor in the movie can be a little on the dark side, but can still be very enjoyable. One sequence towards the end that’s really fun to watch is where the little girl puts together traps to get some of the bad guys - just like ‘Home Alone.’ In fact, she even states that’s where she got the trap idea from. Of course, unlike ‘Home Alone,’ the results of the traps end on a tad more brutal result.

So, if you’re looking for a holiday film that’s really different, yet also features tons of action, some good laughs and a slightly annoying family being held hostage, make sure to check out ‘Violent Night.’

‘Violent Night’ is written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller (both writers worked on the recent ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ movies) and directed by Tommy Wirkola (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters).

‘Violent Night’ is rated R for strong bloody violence, language throughout and some sexual references and has a running time of 112 minutes.
