Before getting this review started, I’ll admit I’m not a huge fan of the extremely popular anime genre. I have checked out a couple anime films and thoroughly enjoyed them. And, once I started seeing the glowing reviews of this film (which ended up opening to $70 million - a record for the anime genre), I decided to give this a shot!
The Demon Slayer Corps plunge into the Infinity Castle to defeat Muzan. However, the remaining Hashiras and the Demon Slayers who survived Tanjiro’s Final Selection are pitted against the remaining members of the Twelve Kizuki first.
Since I really didn’t know too much about this anime series, I decided to check this out without seeing a whole lot of the trailers that are available. In fact, I viewed a quick little teaser for this film as I was waiting for the film to start. And, while I was watching the teaser, I finally realized that this is part of an anime series that has been going on for a while now! And, yes I did a bit of research about this series AFTER checking this film out!
And I’ll admit, after watching “Infinity Castle” I can start to see why the anime genre is becoming one of the most popular film genres ever. “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle” delivers a lot of stunning animation (which is said by many to be some of the best in the series). The film’s story also is quite powerful, particularly when the film deep dives into the villains’ backstories - which actually was one of my favorite parts of the film.
“Infinity Castle” actually does a decent job providing a lot of visually compelling action sequences set within the Infinity Castle. For those who aren’t too familiar, The Infinity Castle is a supernatural, shifting dimension that features endless, maze-like corridors, impossible gravity and constantly changing layouts - which I thought is really awesome!
While this anime delivers some pretty decent action, the final battle between Akaza, Tanjiro and Giyu is easily one of the best. The Akaza character moves at incredible speeds and despite intense injuries, he can easily regenerate almost instantly, which demonstrates one of his most incredible abilities.
Also during the intense, action-packed battle, we get to see Akaza’s backstory which is quite tragic as we see a genuinely good person pushed to extreme circumstances, making this demon character a complex and sympathetic character rather than purely evil. Throughout his backstory we see parts of his difficult past and the loss he experienced.

“Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle” is a must see for long time fans who will appreciate its visual spectacle, and has several emotional payoffs. As I easily found out, this film isn’t a good jumping-on point for new viewers, as it builds on previous content and doesn’t quite provide a clear narrative for those unfamiliar with the series.
