Back in 2002, a little romantic comedy called ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’ was released and became a little hit. Okay, it was way more than a little hit. This movie made a surprisingly huge splash at the box office and earned a huge $241.8 million domestically ($368.7 million worldwide) on a mere $5 million budget.
In 2016, a long-awaited sequel was released and, despite it having a much lower box office return, audiences still enjoyed seeing their favorite Greek family together again. Now, it’s time to get reunited with the family and see what they’re up to in ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3.’
Members of the Portokalos family reunite in Greece for a hilarious and heart-warming trip full of love, twists and turns.
‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3’ is an absolute fun time at the theater. Just like the previous movies, this one delivers some light-hearted laughs and quite a few heart-warming moments along the way.
The new adventure for the Greek family is definitely one that fans of the ‘Greek Wedding’ movies wouldn’t want to miss. There are some really good laughs scattered throughout and Aunt Voula hasn’t changed a single bit. The character can still be funny at times and Cousin Nick helps keep the laughs going as well.
One moment that received a lot of laughter is when a goat randomly walks into the house where the family is staying before anyone awakens and ends up startling Aunt Frieda. After she gets startled, Frieda just yells out that she thought her husband had come back from the dead after seeing the goat. Just from the line delivery alone, it ended up being quite humorous and got quite a few laughs from the audience.

The movie also does have some twists and turns, which I won’t spoil for those who haven’t seen the movie yet. It’s weird not seeing the Gus character who recently passed away since he was one of the best characters of the other movies. Michael Constantine, who portrayed Gus, passed away in 2021. The heart-warming parts can really be a little emotional and also remind you how time with our loved ones is really valuable.
All in all, the third ‘Greek Wedding’ movie is one that fans of the series will really enjoy. There’s plenty of laughs and plenty of Greek fun scattered for everyone to love. Also seeing some of the beautiful Greek scenery is simply breath-taking.
The cast: Nia Vardalos as Toula; John Corbett as Ian; Louis Mandylor; as Nick; Elena Kampouris as Paris; Lainie Kazan as Maria; Andrea Martin as Aunt Voula; Maria Vacratsis as Aunt Frieda; Melinda Kotseloud as Victory; Elias Kacavas as Aristotle and Joey Fantone as Angelo, among many others.
‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3’ is written and directed by ‘Greek Wedding’ star Nia Vardalos.
Here’s a fun fact about the movie: A third movie has been rumored since 2016 and didn’t hit the development stage until April 2021. Development also got eventually held back due to the pandemic.
‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3’ is rated PG-13 for suggestive material and some nudity and has a running time of 92 minutes.
