The Dietrich Theater will be hosting a special event today. The theater will be featuring “Honorable But Broken: EMS in Crisis,” an event sponsored by the Emergency Medical Services of Northeastern Pennsylvania, The Dietrich Theater and the Wyoming County Healthcare Center.
Lack of support and resources for mental health, low wages, poor working conditions and overall underevaluation of working in EMS take an emotional toll on individuals who work in this job sector.
“Honorable But Broken: EMS in Crisis” is a very compelling documentary that’s an absolute must watch. “EMS in Crisis” delivers an overwhelming amount of emotion and, if you know someone that’s an EMS professional, can move you to tears as you see a strong sense of urgency for change.
Throughout this documentary, the film provides a raw look at the immense challenges EMS professionals face and their ongoing struggles with burnout, low pay and inadequate funding for essential services.
During the film, we also get told the story of FDNY EMT John Mondello, who tragically died in 2020 at only the age of 23 by suicide, which represents the devastating impact of the job on mental health, Mondello’s story serves as a tragic example of how the constant exposure to emotional trauma and a lack of support contribute to burnout and despair among EMS workers.
This documentary also aims to raise awareness and advocate for systemic changes to improve funding, support and working conditions for EMS professionals.
The Dietrich Theater will be showing “Honorable But Crisis: EMS in Crisis” today (Sept. 10) at 1 pm and 7 pm. If you can’t make it to this special event, you can also find the documentary on Tubi. No matter what, make sure to check out this important documentary!
