The 2021 action movie “Nobody” was released while theaters were still in the process of re-opening nationwide. While it wasn’t a huge hit, the movie did manage to earn $57 million worldwide and audiences loved it.

Now, four years later, “Nobody 2” has arrived in theaters. And, even though it’s not nearly as strong as the previous movie, the action-packed sequel still delivers.

Four years after he inadvertently took on the Russian mob, Hutch remains $30 million in debt to the criminal organization and is working it off with an unending string of hits on international thugs.

Much as he likes the slam-bang action of his “job,” Hutch and his wife Becca find themselves overworked and drifting apart. So they decide to take their kids on a short getaway to Wild Bill’s Majestic Midway and Waterpark, the one and only place where Hutch and his brother Harry went on vacation as kids.

But when a minor encounter with some town bullies yanks the family into the crosshairs of a corrupt theme park operator and his shady sheriff, Hutch finds himself the focus of the most unhinged, blood-thirsty crime boss he (or anyone) has ever encountered.

If there are any big time die hard action fans out there, “Nobody 2” is the movie for you! The sequel to the 2021 action flick really delivers on the explosive action, which is just as crazy and insane as the first movie. Now while “Nobody 2” is a solid action movie, this sequel does feel a little predictable and formulaic at times, and it doesn’t feature as much humor as the previous movie.

Even though the 2021 movie could be quite intense, “Nobody 2” really kicks the explosive action up quite a few notches. A lot of the action-packed sequences are visually striking and can easily give action fans a big smile on their face.

There are several stand out action moments throughout the movie that are fun to watch and a bit tense. There’s a confrontation between Hutch and a few men on a duck boat that is an awesome fight scene and actually a little hilarious (you just have to watch the scene to see for yourself).

Besides an intense elevator fight that continues on to other locations and some action-packed mayhem at an arcade, the entire third act at the water park features chaotic

creative traps and more over the top action - including a POV gunfight inside a waterslide.

I really loved how the filmmakers decided to give this sequel an insane and over the top third act just like the first movie. It really makes the action incredible and in this sequel, the action at the theme park even incorporates some of the theme park rides as part of the action mayhem - which made it even more fun to watch. And, of course, Christopher Lloyd steals the show (just like the first movie) and looks like he’s still having a complete blast joining in on the action as Hutch’s former FBI agent father.

Overall, “Nobody 2” delivers tons of explosive action that action fans will really enjoy! And, even though the humor was toned down slightly for the sequel, there are still some humorous bits and an over the top (but still decent) performance from Sharon Stone, who portrays the crime boss that is after Hutch.

Cast: Bob Odenkirk (Hutch); Connie Nelson (Becca); Christopher Lloyd (David); John Ortiz (Wyatt Martin); RZA (Harry); Sharon Stone (Lendina); Colin Hanks (Sheriff Abel); Gage Munroe (Brady); Paisley Cadorath (Sammy); Colin Salmon (The Barber).

Writer/director: Derek Kolstad (writer) (Nobody; John Wick 1-3); Aaron Rabin (writer) (Amazon’s Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan); Timo Tjahjanto (director).

Trivia:  “Nobody 2” marks director Timo Tjahjanto’s American directorial debut. Tjihjanto is best known for his ultra-violent Indonesian action films like “Headshot,” “THe Night Comes for Us” and “The Shadow Strays.” “Nobody” director Ilya Naishuller couldn’t return to the director’s chair due to scheduling conflicts. He was already committed to directing the action-comedy “Heads of State” starring John Cena and Idris Elba for Amazon.

MPA: Rated R for strong bloody violence, and language throughout   (runtime (89 minutes)

  • This is Timo Tjahjanto's American directorial debut. Tjahjanto is best known for his ultra-violent Indonesian action films like Headshot (2016), The Night Comes for Us (2018) and The Shadow Strays (2024).

  • The DUKW (pronounced Duck) was an amphibious vehicle widely used during WW2. Post-war, many of them were used for land/water pleasure trips in various parts of the world - generally known as Duck Tours. This is clearly what Hutch was expecting at the park. As the vehicles got older, safety issues became a concern. There were several incidents - some involving fatalities - both on land and on the water. Most Duck Tour companies ceased trading, though a few still exist.

  • Bob Odenkirk, who plays Hutch Mansell, underwent an extremely rigorous and extensive physical training regimen for months for the first film, learning martial arts and combat skills to perform most of his own stunts. For this movie he is reportedly continuing this high-intensity training, demonstrating Odenkirk's commitment to maintaining the authenticity and brutality of the fight sequences, far beyond what might be expected from an actor primarily known for dramatic and comedic roles.

  • Ilya Naishuller couldn't return to the director's chair owing to scheduling conflicts. He was already committed to directing the action-comedy Heads of State (2025) starring John Cena and Idris Elba for Amazon.

  • The screenwriter of the first installment, Derek Kolstad, known as the "architect" of the John Wick universe, has returned to pen the script for this movie. This ensures that the sequel will maintain the inventive action sequences, tightly choreographed fight scenes, and distinctive dark humor that made the first film a success, as well as its underlying connections to the established criminal underworld.
