In the 2024 A24 film “We Live in Time,” Almut and Tobias are brought together in a surprise encounter that changes their lives. Through snapshots of their life together - falling for each other, building a home, becoming a family - a difficult truth is revealed that rocks its foundation.
As they embark on a path challenged by the limits of time, they learn to cherish each moment of the unconventional route their love story has taken in his decade-spanning , deeply moving romance.
Ever since this A24 drama was made available on streaming, I’ve been meaning to fit “We Live in Time” in one of my review line ups. And, now that I finally had the chance to check the film out, “We Live in Time” is definitely a film that romantic drama audiences will surely enjoy.
The A24 romantic drama “We Live in Time” is a heartwarming, emotional drama led by great performances from Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh. Now, while the story is told in the non-linear narrative, the romantic story is rather easy to follow and the emotional moments scattered throughout can easily make you shed a tear or two.
The on-screen chemistry between Pugh and Garfield really helps the dramatic moments truly shine and standout. Their chemistry and performances also really help with the emotional scenes when Almut is going through her health issues. The unconventional way Almut and Tobias meet is actually really memorable - she actually accidentally hits Tobias with her car. Now, that’s a way to meet your future significant other huh!
There are quite a few small ordinary moments featuring the couple and their daughter that may seem a bit mundane, but if you think about it and watch those moments carefully, a lot of those small moments can be extremely moving as the small family is trying to spend as much time together as possible before Almut’s health worsens. There’s also a scene featuring the birth of their daughter that takes place in a gas station bathroom that is both intimate and a bit comedic at the same time.

Overall, “We Live in Time” is a worthwhile, beautiful and satisfying romantic drama that leaves a lasting emotional impression. The film is also an incredibly acted love story that explores themes of love, time and, ultimately, loss.
